Susan's Purpose

Susan serves three kinds of user. First and foremost, Susan offers participants the chance to sign up for experiments for either class credit or money reward. Second, Susan allows experimenters to list their studies, create schedules, and manage extra-credit lists. Finally, professors can log into Susan and list their classes for extra credit, observe their students' participation, and generate end-of-term extra-credit lists.

History of Susan

Susan was created several years ago by this past graduate student on a shoestring budget during a summer semester. It was programmed on a Mac G3 using WebStar and AppleScript (some of you may know why this makes this brave grad a thorough masochist). Susan had many years of productive usage, and experimenters became accustomed to depending on her for recruitment. This grad's creativity and programming work preceded many of the new and popular commercial versions of what Susan accomplishes (e.g., this one).

Though her spirit is the same, Susan was redesigned and reprogrammed in the summer of '03 by Rick Dale. This new Susan provided a more stable server, along with facilitating many fancy new features for both experimenters and participants.

Server support has been supplied by the Department of Psychology. Due to its budget, Fred Horan sometimes has to work hard to keep Susan's body functioning...
